Announcements and practice guidance
Updates on registration standards, open consultations, professional conduct reporting, and guidance relevant to counselling and therapy practice in British Columbia.
- Standards
Consultation opens on remote and digital practice standards
BCACT is consulting registrants and the public on revised expectations for counselling and therapy delivered by video, telephone, and text, including identity verification, platform security, and jurisdictional limits.
- Registration
Supervised practice logs move to a standard format
A single practice log format will apply to all applications from the next registration year, setting out client contact hours, setting, supervision received, and supervisor confirmation in a consistent structure.
- Governance
Public directors appointed to the board
Two public directors have joined the BCACT board, strengthening representation of the interests of people who use counselling and therapy services in decisions about standards and accountability.
- Professional conduct
Annual summary of professional conduct outcomes published
The anonymized summary sets out the categories of concern received, how many proceeded to determination, and the outcomes reached, so that registrants can see how standards are applied in practice.
- Education
Updated recognition criteria for counselling and therapy programs
Revised criteria place greater weight on directly observed clinical practice and on the governance of placement settings, following consultation with training providers across British Columbia.
